WHY I’M RUNNING

The short story is I love this city. I want to be part of it as it grows and changes.

I ran for this position is 2023. Why run again? What’s different now? I still have the passion for public service and I’ve learned a lot more that will benefit Denver’s residents, business operators, and the people that work here.

I’ve spent thousands of hours since 2004 on various boards and committees while balancing a family and full-time job – thanks to my friends. I think I have experience in affordable housing compliance, land use, transportation, and public safety policy to make a meaningful contribution. There will always be more to learn. Every person has a different experience in Denver, whether it’s someone here on a long weekend, a recent transplant, or my friends who are lifelong residents and remember when only ranches were south of Hampden.

I grew up in a two-union household in Akron, Ohio. Both of my parents were deeply involved in campaigns for city, county, and state offices, as well as local efforts for U.S. House and Senate candidates. I remember the dining room table being covered with campaign literature and walking lists from August through the first Tuesday in November. I started stuffing envelopes for candidates and leaving door hangers when I was ten years old. I was raised watching my parents serve. I was taught to serve. I can’t imagine my life without it.

I moved to Denver from Cincinnati in 1999 to attend law school at the University of Denver. The employment and social opportunities also drew me – and several hundred thousand other people. I have strong ideas on how I would like this city to operate. However, I believe the At-Large seat belongs to the people. As a father and long-standing member of this community, I work towards representing the interests of all Denverites, but especially those whose voices have been historically unheard and marginalized. I work towards a better Denver for all.

Civic service has always been part of my life. I hope you find that my experience and record will add value to the Denver City Council. Thank you for your interest.
